[2017 CSA Week 4]
It's been a real pleasure to offer strawberries this year, and we will continue to grow them at this scale. Alas, they seem to be dwindling this week. But if you like berries, we have great news: we have stumbled into a blueberry situation.
Some of you might be familiar with Russell's Blueberries on Maple St in Contoocook. Peter Russell is moving and has asked us to take care of his bushes this year. They'll probably start ripening within a couple of weeks, and we hope to make them available to you. These blueberries have been certified organic, and, although Peter let his certification lapse (knowing he was moving away), nothing has changed regarding how they've been managed.
Meanwhile, back at Work Song, things are still ripening slowly due to the cool weather, but the plants look good.
This week's share...
- Strawberries (hopefully for all)
- Garlic Scapes
- Greens option: gunsho, salad greens, or sorrel.
- Kohlrabi/radish option. Kohlrabi should be peeled before eating. It is great cut up and eaten raw with dip but it can also be sauteed and even roasted. It is like a solid cabbage or similar to a broccoli stalk.
Here's a link to some simple, delicious pickled radishes. Abby made them for the fridge the other day. Beware, they do let off a potent odor when you open the jar.
You can also Google garlic scape pesto to find lots of recipes.
